When Abu Mousa returned from his prayer or finished his prayer ; he gave his attention to the people; and said: Which of you is the speaker of such and such words? The people remained silent. Which of you is the speaker of such and such words? The people remained silent. He said: You might have said them; Hittan. He replied: I did not say them. I was afraid you might punish me. One of the people said: I said them and I did not intend by them anything except good. Abu Mousa said: Do you not know how you utter them in your prayer? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us; and taught us and explained to us our way of doing and taught us our prayer. He said: When you pray a congregational prayer; straighten your rows; then one of you should lead you in prayer. When he says the takbir Allah is Most Great ; say the takbir; and when he recites verses Not of those upon whom is Thy anger; nor of those who err i.e. the end of Surah i. ; say Amin; Allah will favour you. Abu Bakr and Umar were among the people and they were too afraid to speak to him and the people came out in haste saying : The prayer has been shortened. But among them was a man called Dhu AlYadain who said: Messenger of Allah; has the prayer been shortened or have you forgotten? The Apostle of Allah ﷺ looked to the right and left and said: What was Dhu AlYadain saying? They said: He is right. You the Holy Prophet offered but two rakahs. He offered two more rakahs and gave salutation; then said takbir and prostrated and lifted his head and then said takbir and prostrated; then said takbir and lifted his head. He the narrator says: It has been reported to me by Imran Bin Hosain that he said: He then gave salutation. SahihMuslim-017-001-24279
- Narrated Samurah Ibn Jundub: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to recite when we sit in the middle of the prayer or at its end before the salutation: The adorations of the tongue; all good things; acts of worship; and the Kingdom are due to Allah. Then give salutation to the right side; then salute your reciter i.e. the imam and yourselves.Abu Dawud said: Sulaiman Bin Mousa hails from Kufah and he lives in Damascus.Abu Dawud said: This collection of traditions indicates that AlHasan AlBasri heard traditions from Samurah Bin Jundub. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27953
- Narrated Abdullah Ibn Amr: The Prophet ﷺ said: There are two qualities or characteristics which will not be returned by any Muslim without his entering Paradise. While they are easy; those who act upon them are few. One should say: Glory be to Allah ten times after every prayer; Praise be to Allah ten times and Allah is Most Great ten times. That is a hundred and fifty on the tongue; but one thousand and five hundred on the scale. When he goes to bed; he should say: Allah is Most Great thirty-four times; Praise be to Allah thirty-three times; and Glory be to Allah thirty-three times; for that is a hundred on the tongue and a thousand on the scale. He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ counting them on his hand. The people asked: Messenger of Allah! How is it that while they are easy; those who act upon them are few? He replied: The Devil comes to one of you when he goes to bed and he makes him sleep; before he utters them; and he comes to him while he is engaged in prayer and calls a need to his mind before he utters them. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27008
- Narrated Aisha: When the Prophet; became ill in his fatal illness; Someone came to inform him about the prayer; and the Prophet ﷺ told him to tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer. I said; Abu Bakr is a softhearted man and if he stands for the prayer in your place; he would weep and would not be able to recite the Quran. The Prophet ﷺ said; Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer. I said the same as before. He repeated the same order and on the third or the fourth time he said; You are the companions of Joseph. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer. So Abu Bakr led the prayer and meanwhile the Prophet ﷺ felt better and came out with the help of two men; as if I see him just now dragging his feet on the ground. When Abu Bakr saw him; he tried to retreat but the Prophet ﷺ beckoned him to carry on. Abu Bakr retreated a bit and the Prophet ﷺ sat on his left side. Abu Bakr was repeating the Takbir Allahu Akbar of Allah Messenger ﷺ for the people to hear. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-680
- Abu Huraira reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying : The young should salute the old; the one who is passing by should salute the one who is sitting; and a small company should salute a large one. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27141
- Narrated Ikrima: I saw a person praying at Muqam-Ibrahim the place of Abraham by the Kaba and he was saying Takbir on every bowing; rising; standing and sitting. I asked Ibn Abbas about this prayer. He admonished me saying: Isnt that the prayer of the Prophet? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-755
- Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was ill and we said prayer behind him and he was sitting. And Abu Bakr was making audible to the people his takbir. As he paid his attention towards us he saw us standing and directed us to sit down with a gesture. So we sat down and said our prayer with his prayer in a sitting posture. After uttering salutation he said: You were at this time about to do an act like that of the Persians and the Romans. They stand before their kings while they sit; so dont do that; follow your Imams. If they say prayer standing; you should also do so; and if they say prayer sitting; you should also say prayer sitting. SahihMuslim-017-001-23399
- Narrated Ali Ibn Abu Talib: Abu Dawud said: AlHasan Ibn Ali traced this tradition back to the Prophet ﷺ : When people are passing by; it is enough if one of them gives a salutation on their behalf; and that it is enough for those who are sitting if one of them replies. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27153
- This tradition has been narrated by Abu Qatadah through a different chain of transmitters to the same effect from the prophet ﷺ. This version adds: then he may remain sitting after praying two RAKAHS or may go for his work. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27445

Then he should sit and recite the tashahhud. When he finishes the prayer; and there remains nothing except salutation; he should make two prostrations while he is sitting and afterwards should give the salutation. The narrator then narrated the tradition similar to that of Malik.Abu Dawud said: Similarly; this tradition has been narrated by Ibn Wahb from Malik; Hafs Bin Maisarah; Dawud Bin Qais and Hisham Bin Sad.
